FEMA Camp Parent Trap
is a free short story. It was written in 2013 by Ilyan Kei Lavanway and posted as a blog entry on this blog, about two years before Jade Helm and Operation Maple Resolve and Common Core. The scenario depicted in the story is becoming increasingly relevant, so much so, in fact, that it was expedient to publish it as a free eBook available in all formats through Smashwords.

RESPONSE TO THE SUPREME COURT DECISION LEGALIZING SAME-SEX MARRIAGE IN THE UNITED STATES June 29, 2015

Because of the recent decision of the United States Supreme Court and similar legal proceedings and legislative actions in a number of countries that have given civil recognition to same-sex marriage relationships, the Council of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints restates and reaffirms the doctrinal foundation of Church teachings on morality, marriage, and the family. As we do, we encourage all to consider these teachings in the context of the Plan of Salvation and our Heavenly Father’s purposes in creating the earth and providing for our mortal birth and experience here as His children.

Marriage between a man and a woman was instituted by God and is central to His plan for His children and for the well-being of society. “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:27-28). “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Strong families, guided by a loving mother and father, serve as the fundamental institution for nurturing children, instilling faith, and transmitting to future generations the moral strengths and values that are important to civilization and vital to eternal salvation.

A family built on marriage of a man and a woman is the best setting for God’s plan of happiness to thrive. That is why communities and nations generally have encouraged and protected marriage between a man and a woman, and the family that results from their union, as privileged institutions. Sexual relations outside of such a marriage are contrary to the laws of God pertaining to morality.

Changes in the civil law do not, indeed cannot, change the moral law that God has established. God expects us to uphold and keep His commandments regardless of divergent opinions or trends in society. His law of chastity is clear: sexual relations are proper only between a man and a woman who are legally and lawfully wedded as husband and wife. We invite all to review and understand the doctrine contained in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.”

Consistent with our fundamental beliefs, Church officers will not employ their ecclesiastical authority to perform marriages between two people of the same sex, and the Church does not permit its meetinghouses or other properties to be used for ceremonies, receptions, or other activities associated with same‐sex marriages. Nevertheless, all visitors are welcome to our chapels and premises so long as they respect our standards of conduct while there.

The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us to love and treat all people with kindness and civility - even when we disagree. We affirm that those who avail themselves of laws or court rulings authorizing same-sex marriage should not be treated disrespectfully. Indeed, the Church has advocated for rights of same-sex couples in matters of hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment, and probate, so long as these do not infringe on the integrity of the traditional family or the constitutional rights of churches.

The Church insists on its leaders’ and members’ right to express and advocate religious convictions on marriage, family, and morality free from retaliation or retribution. The Church is also entitled to maintain its standards of moral conduct and good standing for members.

As members of the Church, we are responsible to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to illuminate the great blessings that flow from heeding God’s commandments as well as the inevitable consequences of ignoring them. We invite all to pray that people everywhere will have their hearts softened to the truths God established in the beginning, and that wisdom will be granted to those who are called upon to decide issues critical to society’s future.

THE COUNCIL OF THE FIRST PRESIDENCY AND QUORUM OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER‐DAY SAINTS

Background Material for Bishops and Branch Presidents on the U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Same-sex Marriage:

The Church has provided a statement dated June 29, 2015, prepared by the Council of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage in the United States. The response reaffirms the divinely-revealed reasons and proper doctrinal context for the Church’s unequivocal position regarding matters of morality, chastity, marriage, and the family. As the response notes, the Church’s teachings on these subjects are grounded in the scriptural declarations of God’s eternal plan for the salvation and exaltation of His children and are framed in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.” While the statement stands on its own, below is additional information that may be helpful to you in responding to questions that may arise.

For much of human history, civil laws have generally been compatible with God’s laws. Unfortunately, there have been notable exceptions to that pattern. For example, it is legal in the United States to perform an abortion on an unborn fetus. However, this practice is not morally acceptable before God. (See Handbook 1, 17.3). The consumption of alcohol, while contrary to God’s law, is legal in most nations of the world, but the physical and social toll for doing so is a painful matter of record. So, too, with issues of unchaste sexual behavior, whether it be heterosexual or homosexual in its orientation. As the First Presidency has previously said and as this current response affirms, “Changes in the civil law do not, indeed cannot, change the moral law that God has established. God expects us to uphold and keep His commandments regardless of divergent opinions or trends in society” (First Presidency letter on “Same-Sex Marriage,” January 9, 2014).

What is the Church’s Policy on Homosexual Relations?

“Homosexual behavior violates the commandments of God, is contrary to the purposes of human sexuality, and deprives people of the blessings that can be found in family life and in the saving ordinances of the gospel. Those who persist in such behavior or who influence others to do so are subject to Church discipline. Homosexual behavior can be forgiven through sincere repentance. “If members engage in homosexual behavior, Church leaders should help them have a clear understanding of faith in Jesus Christ, the process of repentance, and the purpose of life on earth.

“While opposing homosexual behavior, the Church reaches out with understanding and respect to individuals who are attracted to those of the same gender. “If members feel same-gender attraction but do not engage in any homosexual behavior, leaders should support and encourage them in their resolve to live the law of chastity and to control unrighteous thoughts. These members may receive Church callings. If they are worthy and qualified in every other way, they may also hold temple recommends and receive temple ordinances” (Handbook 2, 21.4.6).

Does the authorization of same-sex marriage affect my right to religious freedom?

Our individual right to religious freedom is protected by the First Amendment to the United States’ Constitution and by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As we exercise that right, we must also exercise tolerance and respect toward others’ rights but do so without condoning behavior that goes contrary to the laws of God. “While we strive for the virtue of tolerance, other commendable qualities need not be lost. Tolerance does not require the surrender of noble purpose or of individual identity. The Lord gave instruction to leaders of His restored Church to establish and maintain institutional integrity - ‘that the Church may stand independent’ (D&C 78:14)” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, “Teach Us Tolerance and Love,” April 1994 general conference).

How do I respond respectfully to those who consider the Church’s position on this matter unchristian?

Our objection to same-sex marriage is not based on animosity toward anyone, but on our understanding of God’s purposes for His children. For us, the issues are not simply “tolerance” and “equality.” The issues are the nature of marriage and the consequences of redefining a divinely established institution. In addition, redefining marriage in the law can have profound consequences for society, particularly for children. Mothers and fathers matter, and they are not interchangeable. “On the subject of public discourse, we should all follow the gospel teachings to love our neighbor and avoid contention. Followers of Christ should be examples of civility. We should ... be good listeners and show concern for the sincere belief [of others.] Though we may disagree, we should not be disagreeable. We should be wise in explaining our position and, in doing so, ask that others not be offended by our sincere religious beliefs and the free exercise of our religion” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Loving Others and Living with Differences,” October 2014 general conference).

What if I have reservations of my own regarding the Church’s position on this subject?

“Members who ... have doctrinal questions should make a diligent effort, including earnest prayer and scripture study, to find solutions and answers themselves. Church members are encouraged to seek guidance from the Holy Ghost to help them in their personal lives and in family and Church responsibilities.

“If members still need help, they should counsel first with their bishop. If necessary, he may refer them to the stake president. “... Stake presidents who need clarification about doctrinal or other Church matters may write in behalf of their members to the First Presidency” (Handbook 2, 21.1.24).

A Living Apostle Explains God's Equation for Happiness

If someone were to ask you the profound yet simple question, "Do you understand God's equation for happiness?" what would you say?

If you feel stumped by the question, you might use your handy mobile device to look up lds.org
and search for a good answer.

The answer is simply, "Happiness is the Sum of Obedience."

Referring to God's laws as outlined in the Ten Commandments, Elder L. Tom Perry explains this in his April 2013 General Conference address titled Obedience to Law is Liberty.

Compare this with the book Circumscription Hypothesis for a thoughtful perspective on the simple beauty of our complex universe.

Julie Rowe Near Death Experience

The following article highlights timely and relevant details of a near death experience by Julie Rowe
. The article is presented in the link below for each individual to consider and evaluate, regardless of your beliefs or geographical location.

Compare Julie Rowe's account to the account given in the John M. Pontius book, Visions of Glory: One Man's Astonishing Account of the Last Days

As you read, please bear in mind that the Old Testament prophecy recorded in Joel 2:28-32 has been fulfilled in our time.

Please also bear in mind that while timely and relevant, these and similar personal experiences are just that. Personal. They do not necessarily represent official doctrine. For clear and unequivocal doctrine, look to the General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

While visiting the Philippines I was asked to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
, in the Victorias First Ward, Cadiz Philippines Stake.

I felt impressed to speak about Relying on The Lord in the Last Days. This is among the most relevant and timely topics to address, and it bears a certain sense of urgency. At the suggestion of my dear wife, I chose to focus a goodly portion of my talk on the importance of temple ordinances in the last days.

I have a deep and abiding personal conviction that vicarious work accomplished exclusively in the temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is of utmost concern to the salvation of mankind and the perpetuation of Earth as a habitable planet. No kidding.

For those who prefer the convenience of an eBook, I have published the talk as such.

Read the talk with an open mind. It is provided completely free in all eBook formats at Smashwords. It includes active hyperlinks to a plethora of authoritative sources and explanatory articles.

Regardless of what you believe or where you live, this talk is for you. Feel free to use it, share it, re-post it, print it, distribute it, record it, and do anything you like with it.

For those not familiar with Smashwords, you can download eBooks in all popular formats from one convenient location. You do not have to join or buy anything to download eBooks that are offered with 100-percent free sampling.

I would have been happy to make this eBook free as well on Amazon Kindle, but Amazon will not allow me to list Kindle books free.

Dreams of the Last Days - Where are all the stars?

Of course, you can read the same account below. However, for those who prefer the convenience of an eBook, I have published it.

***

I had a strange dream during the wee hours last Sunday, 1 February 2015.

I only recall pieces of it, but I recall that during the dream, it was a continuous, clear, uninterrupted experience, so vivid, I felt as if I were still enveloped in it upon waking.

What I could still recall when I sat down to write this account some twelve hours after the fact, is this:

I was walking on the flight line of some enormous airport, following a glowing, violet-hued, disk-shaped craft that hovered about fifty feet above the tarmac and moved toward an enormous hangar-like structure. It moved slowly, at a pace just a bit faster that my walking pace.

The craft seemed to have a single-pilot cockpit situated near the trailing edge, between two canted vertical fins. The body was biconvex, circular in shape, thin overall, but thinner at the edges. I could not ascertain how it hovered, but there did not seem to be any turbine or propeller wash, and no rocket exhaust, so it must have been propelled by means other than aerodynamic or rocket power.

As it moved along, I became aware of a frightening but subtle, low-frequency rhythm which I believe had nothing to do with the craft but rather came from the environment.

The craft was not large. About the size of a fighter jet, though shaped differently. As the craft approached the enormous hangar, a large, rectangular door opened upward and inward to allow access. I walked in as the craft hovered forward, ahead of me. The door opened in anticipation of the craft so that the craft never had to slow down or stop.

After walking across an enormous, empty floorspace, I became aware that the back wall of the hangar was another large, rectangular door. It, too, opened into a vast, empty hangar space, and the scene repeated, and then a third hangar door, same routine.

The deeper I walked and followed this craft into the bowels of this colossal hangar complex, the more dimly lit yet clearly visible everything seemed. The dim light was similar to the green hue of night vision goggles, but clear and in focus, not fuzzy or blurred. The ceiling of these hangar sections was astronomically high.

Then, at the back wall of the third hangar section, a row of large, steel double doors was arrayed before me. The craft hovered through an open gap above the wall in which these double doors were arranged.

As I approached a set of the double doors, they opened toward me, and I walked into a fourth room that had no ceiling whatsoever. It had high walls but opened right up into the night sky.

The craft was now a considerable distance ahead of me, and my attention turned to the four or five men wearing white lab coats walking single file, spaced about twenty paces one behind the other, coming toward me along the wall situated several dozen yards to my right.

I had the impression that they were scientists, and that they were exhausted, having worked round the clock, to no avail, trying to come up with a solution, or answers, regarding a recent and unprecedented phenomenon.

I looked up in bewilderment at the clear, cloudless, pitch black sky. I could sense it was open sky extending to infinity. A question just rolled out of my mouth without my thinking of what to say, and without my having any previous familiarity with the problem these men had been working to resolve. I asked, "Where are all the stars?"

The man closest to me answered, "We don't know."

I was surprised that they answered me at all, as I wondered if my presence there was not in violation of some security protocol. I had never been there, and they did not know me, nor I them, yet it seemed to them as if my arrival there was nothing unusual. Perhaps because everything was already unusual. Or were they expecting me?

I scanned the blackness overhead more carefully, and noticed a single pinpoint of light high above the wall to my right and toward the back of the room. Somehow I intuited that that direction should be North, and again without thinking, another question rolled out of my mouth, "Isn't that Polaris, the North Star?"

The reply was again, simply, "We don't know."

Then I woke up.

I have no idea what this means except that perhaps the Earth will be removed from its present location just before the return of Christ in his glory. Or maybe it was not earth at all.

I might not have bothered to post any of this on my blog. However, I experienced a follow-up during waking hours a week later. That indicates to me this is something worth sharing and, at the very least, not dismissing as just another weird dream.

Today, Sunday, 8 February 2015, I was sitting in Sacrament Meeting at Church, reading in The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

Out of the blue, the memory of this dream popped up. As I pondered it I felt inspired to search the words of the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah that are reiterated in the Book of Mormon, in Second Nephi.

After some searching, I came across the following passages in 2 Nephi 23:10 (compare Isaiah 13:10), and 2 Nephi 23:13-14 (compare Isaiah 13:13-14).

Below are the precise sentences that jumped out at me as I was reading these verses. I encourage you to read the entire chapters yourself for the sake of context.

"For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light ..."

"Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place ... And it shall be as chased roe, and a sheep that no man taketh up ..."

What makes this even more significant is the fact that the Prophet Isaiah is the single most quoted prophet in the Book of Mormon, and a prophet whose writings Christ himself instructed the Nephites, and us in our day, to search diligently.

See 3 Nephi 20:11 and 3 Nephi 23:1.

Islam and Muslims in End Times Prophecies

As a matter of perspective, what Christians call an Anti-Christ may be the very thing Muslims tote as a savior. Lisa Haven
, Christian News Analyst and narrator in the videos below, offers an invaluable and fresh way of looking at things. She examines prophecies not only from the Christian biblical point of view, but the same prophecies from the Islamic point of view. Interestingly, the Muslims do indeed have prophetic counterparts to many of the end times biblical prophecies.

Take note of how the Muslims see the same prophecies. Mirror reversal. Fulfillment of the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah's words regarding things being turned upside down or backward, and people calling evil good and good evil.

The following YouTube videos share interesting opinions on biblical prophecies about a possible Anti-Christ that many, including myself, have not considered. These thoughts are presented for your own evaluation.

I second the disclaimer expressed by the narrator, that these thoughts are not conclusive but at the same time are not to be discounted as possibilities. Either way, the faithful will be watching and learning as the signs of the times unfold. And Jesus Christ will return.

Study the scriptures and look to the living Prophet, his two counselors, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for pure doctrine and correct guidance. They hold the keys and constitute the measuring stick for evaluating all things transpiring upon the earth.

Islam Bears Burden of Proof to the Free World

I am re-posting this from an email I received recently. I do not know whether this is factual or fabricated
. In this particular case, it makes no difference. It needs to be said regardless of who says it, and it makes a great point.

AMERICAN AIRLINES PILOT SPEAKS HIS MIND

No name calling, no hatred, no political agenda.

CANADIAN COMMENT APPEARS AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE AND IS MEANINGFUL. THERE IS ALSO A RECENTLY ADDED BRITISH COMMENT.

This pilot hit the nail right on the head in his open letter.

A newspaper stated that some Muslim doctor is saying we are profiling him because he has been checked three times while getting on an airplane. The following is a letter from a pilot. This well-spoken man, who is a pilot with American Airlines, says what is in his heart, beautifully.

YOU WORRY ME!

By Captain John Maniscalco, American Airlines Pilot

I've been trying to say this since 911, but you worry me. I wish you didn't. I wish when I walked down the streets of this country that I love, that your color and culture still blended with the beautiful human landscape we enjoy in this country. But you don't blend in anymore. I notice you, and it worries me.

I notice you because I can't help it anymore. People from your homelands, professing to be Muslims, have been attacking and killing my fellow citizens and our friends for more than 20 years now. I don't fully understand their grievances and hate, but I know that nothing can justify the inhumanity of their attacks.

On September 11 [2001], ARAB-MUSLIMS hijacked four jetliners in my country. They cut the throats of women in front of children and brutally stabbed to death others. They took control of those planes and crashed them into buildings, killing thousands of proud fathers, loving sons, wise grandparents, elegant daughters, best friends, favorite coaches, fearless public servants, and children's mothers.

The Palestinians celebrated, the Iraqis were overjoyed as was most of the Arab world. So, I notice you now. I don't want to be worried. I don't want to be consumed by the same rage, hate and prejudice that has destroyed the soul of these terrorists. But I need your help. As a rational American, trying to protect my country and family in an irrational and unsafe world, I must know how to tell the difference between you, and the Arab/Muslim terrorist.

How do I differentiate between the true Arab/Muslim Americans and the Arab/Muslim terrorists in our communities who are attending our schools, enjoying our parks, and living in OUR communities under the protection of OUR constitution, while they plot the next attack that will slaughter MORE of the same good neighbors and children?

The events of September 11 changed the answer.. It is not MY responsibility to determine which of you embraces our great country, with ALL of its religions, with ALL of its different citizens, with all of its faults. It is time for every Arab/Muslim in this country to determine it for me.

I want to know, I DEMAND to know and I have a right to know, whether or not you love America ... Do you pledge allegiance to its flag? Do you proudly display it in front of your house, or on your car? Do you pray in your many daily prayers that Allah will bless this nation; that He will protect it and let it prosper? Or do you pray that Allah will destroy it in one of your Jihads? Are you thankful for the freedom that this nation affords? A freedom that was paid for by the blood of hundreds of thousands of patriots who gave their lives for this country? Are you willing to preserve this freedom by also paying the ultimate sacrifice? Do you love America?? If this is your commitment, then I need YOU to start letting ME know about it.

Your Muslim leaders in this nation should be flooding the media at this time with hard facts on your faith, and what hard actions YOU are taking as a community and as a religion to protect the United States of America. Please, no more benign overtures of regret for the death of the innocent, because I worry about who you regard as innocent.... No more benign overtures of condemnation for the unprovoked attacks, because I worry about what is unprovoked to you. I am not interested in any more sympathy; I am interested only in action. What will you do for America - our great country - at this time of crisis, at this time of war?

I want to see Arab-Muslims waving the AMERICAN flag in the streets. I want to hear you chanting 'Allah Bless America'. I want to see young Arab/Muslim men enlisting in the military. I want to see a commitment of money, time and emotion to the victims of this butchering and to this nation as a whole.

The FBI has a list of over 400 people they want to talk to regarding the WTC attack. Many of these people live and socialize right now in Muslim communities. You know them. You know where they are. Hand them over to us, NOW! But I have seen little even approaching this sort of action. Instead I have seen an already closed and secretive community close even tighter. You have disappeared from the streets. You have posted armed security guards at your facilities. You have threatened lawsuits. You have screamed for protection from reprisals.

The very few Arab/Muslim representatives that HAVE appeared in the media were defensive and equivocating. They seemed more concerned with making sure that the United States proves who was responsible before taking action. They seemed more concerned with protecting their fellow Muslims from violence directed towards them in the United States and abroad than they did with supporting our country and denouncing 'leaders' like Khadafi, Hussein, Farrakhan, and Arafat.

IF the true teachings of Islam proclaim tolerance and peace and love for all people, then I want chapter and verse from the Koran and statements from popular Muslim leaders to back it up. What good is it if the teachings in the Koran are good, pure, and true, when your 'leaders' ARE teaching fanatical interpretations, terrorism, and intolerance? It matters little how good Islam SHOULD BE if huge numbers of the world's Muslims interpret the teachings of Mohammed incorrectly and adhere to a degenerative form of the religion. A form that has been demonstrated to us over and over again. A form whose structure is built upon a foundation of violence, death, and suicide. A form whose members are recruited from the prisons around the world. A form whose members (some as young as five years old) are seen day after day, week in and week out, year after year, marching in the streets around the world, burning effigies of our presidents, burning the American flag, shooting weapons into the air. A form whose members convert from a peaceful religion, only to take up arms against the great United States of America, the country of their birth. A form whose rules are so twisted, that their traveling members refuse to show their faces at airport security checkpoints, in the name of Islam.

We will NEVER allow the attacks of September 11, or any others for that matter, to take away that which is so precious to us -- our rights under the greatest constitution in the world. I want to know where every Arab Muslim in this country stands and I think it is my right and the right of every true citizen of this country to DEMAND it. A right paid for by the blood of thousands of my brothers and sisters who died protecting the very constitution that is protecting you and your family.

I am pleading with you to let me know. I want you here as my brother, my neighbor, my friend, as a fellow American ... But there can be no grey areas or ambivalence regarding your allegiance, and it is up to YOU, to show ME, where YOU stand. Until then, "YOU WORRY ME!"

CANADIAN COMMENTS:

I totally agree with this sentiment. I hope you will forget all about the 'political correctness' mandate we've had rammed down our throats, and see if this doesn't ring true in your heart and mind. For Canada, with all the multiculturalism we've been told is so important....why should we not, as Canadians, expect that the millions of new people immigrating to our country will show their love for our country, their allegiance to our country, their willingness to obey the laws of our country, and acceptance that we are a Christian country? Just because they are able to enjoy exercising their own religion, they should NOT expect us to be ashamed of ours. They knew Canada was a Christian country when they came here. Why are we erasing Christianity because immigrants who are unwilling to adopt our way of life expect us to? There is just too much insanity in the world, and we have to start taking a stand.

I hope you will forward this, so that others will feel they are not alone if they are starting to feel the same.

BRITISH COMMENTS:

At last a clear non-racist example of the concerns that the vast majority of our Nation’s population probably share. The pilot's letter encapsulates all that is fair and just about national pride and protection of one's national culture. I fear it may be too late here in UK, BUT we too want our country back in the form that attracted all these different cultures to come here in the first place!! In all our conversations with a wide range of friends and acquaintances we have not met one that disagrees with our own views. If only we all had the courage of our convictions to pass this on, it is a statement that should be accepted as the heart-felt feelings of someone with honest commendable national pride.

Discover the connection between intelligence and light and the theory of everything. Quantum physics and relativity seem contradictory rather than mutually supportive. Why? What is missing? What bridges the chasm of inexplicability and satisfies the demands of both schools of thought? Is there one equation that accounts for everything? Is there one whole within which all things can be explained?

Fans of Dr. Stephen Hawking
and Dr. Michio Kaku may appreciate this book.

Circumscription Hypothesis by Ilyan Kei Lavanway is now available on Kindle at Amazon.com. Also available in all popular eBook formats through Smashwords. Print edition will be releasing soon at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, and other retail bookstores.
